You are 150% correct about the educating of our children, don't forget the parents, pay the teachers more, attract the best teachers, better social services and assistance for those THAT REALLY need it. I don't mean a Bigga Mc hand out. Plus IMHO the other key is forget purging Cayman of non "true borns" as you say work together like you did in the past and make Cayman a better place and the country it can be.
As far as Bigga Mc is concerned between now and wote time he will flap off about ridiculous wote trapping schemes and try to deflect any comments or info about his colorful lucrative past.
Time for the next generation to step up. Get rid of the politico's that have steered you to where you are and save Cayman.

All the best

An Educator

As a teacher, I must tell you that new schools are not the answer. Studies have shown that effective teaching practices are much more important than state of the art facilities. In our primary schools many teachers aren't computer literate etc. so those facilities are not put to good use.

Also, there is a serious lack of accountability in our schools. Students, who are not special needs, are not even making a year's growth in the classes taught by ineffective teachers.

We have many wonderful teachers in our schools, but we also have some who are here for money (the pay may be bad the exchange rate isn't). We need more Caymanian teachers, ones who won't be cowed when Caymanian parents go on ignorant. I have had more than one non-Caymanian teacher tell me that they won't discipline students because it is not worth losing their jobs over.

There is a self-fulfilling prophecy at work here. Most non-Caymanians seem to think that the average Caymanian is stupid. Most teachers are non-Caymanians. If they treat the students like they are stupid, the students will become what the teacher percieves them to be...

COULDN'T AGREE MORE. BUT MY POINT IS THE GOVERNMENT'S LACK OF COMMITTMENT TO MAKING THE SITUATION BETTER... BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY.

Cayman is beginning to evolve not unlike the movie "Idiocracy" , where procreation by dullards outpaced the intelligent by such a huge margin that the within 600 years the smartest person in the world had an IQ of 100.

Seriously though, your recent rant could be about just about any country in the western hemishere, the world seems to be getting taken over by imbeciles. Not that I'm a prude, but behaviour that would be unthinkable 50 years ago is the now commonplace, society is regressing back to that of Cro-Magnon cave dwellers. Perhaps in another 50 years it will be legal to murder your neighbour because you scared his parakeet.

Old stock Caymanians I talk to are afraid of the profound drop in their citizen's work ethic and corresponding rise in lifestyle expectations in just a couple of generations. If this trend keeps up, hiring dead Caymanians will be little different than hiring a live one.

Education plays a principal role in building a strong nation. It is every individual's duty to educate their child so that the nation's future is bright.

How about actually doing something that would contribute positively to the Cayman Islands than just blogging about your grudges and generalizations of caymanian people?

YOU'RE RIGHT. MAYBE I SHOULD GET CAYMANIAN STATUS SO I COULD BLOG ABOUT MY GRUDGES AND GENERALIZATIONS OF EX-PATS.
IF YOU DON'T GET WHAT I'M DOING HERE, I'M SORRY.

You are awesome. I must tell you that I think that hearing someone with a brain speak out about Cayman's ridiculous stupidity is insanely refreshing. I am a gay mom living down here in Grand Cayman. I literally basically don't have any friends because I am too afraid to go up to another human being that I don't know and hold a conversation! I am from the states, and I basically am here because my girl is Caymanian. She forewarned me long before we came here about what it's like but I had NO IDEA until I actually got here how bad it -really- is. I have done numerous searches just to find another person in my boat to no avail. We are going to move very soon back to the states, but in the meantime I would love to be able to do something to actually change it, but the truth is... I'm not even sure where to start. I have gotten a few people together on facebook in a discussion group for gays living down here. That's about it. To be honest, I'd love to -try- asking local businesses to post a flyer for such a group, but I am terrified to ask.

Anyway, I basically just wanted to say thank you so much for writing this. You have no idea what it means to someone like me. :) I wish I could have a cup of coffee with you. (haha)

Take Care
